The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Barbering is a technical level qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed men’s stylist.
This qualification builds on existing knowledge and develops skills to a higher level and is based on barbering National Occupational Standards
(NOS) which is recognised by the UK’s leading barbering association (British Barbering Association – BBA).

Entry requirements:
Learners looking to progress onto this course require a Level 2 Barbering qualification ideally, although not essential, and industry experience. All applicants will complete a numeracy and Literacy test.
Course content
During the course, you will cover the following:
- Monitor and maintain health and safety
- Promote and sell products and services
- Consultation support for colleagues
- Cut men’s hair to create a variety of looks
- Cut facial hair to create a variety of looks
- Marketing in the hair sector
- Creative hair design skills
- Manage a style collection
- Shaving services
This will be continually assessed through practical assessments, observations, portfolio evidence, written tasks, and online exams.
Progression
Whilst this qualification is to prepare learners for employment, you may wish to progress your career and develop other skills further by completing a specialist qualification at Level 4:
- Teaching / Assessing (Alongside the BBN1 Team)
- Advanced hair styling
- Specialist hair and scalp services
- Salon management
Or you may want to apply for a position in one of our 8 busy stores working on our prestigious clientele.
Course dates and times
Our Level 3 courses run throughout the year and are based over 24 weeks, 1 day a week in our St Helen’s Academy. (Please check our website for the latest dates).
Course fees
If you are 19+, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees. Loan eligibility isn’t dependant on income or employment status and there is no credit check required. Loan repayments don’t start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000.
